Still missing the Acidman
I used to read more blogs than I do now.
Oh, sure, I use my feed reader to keep track of the Peoria and Illinois blogospheres. But I used to read all sorts of blogs, from all over the place on many different subjects. I’m not sure why I’m not doing it as much these days. It may be a time/energy issue. But then it might just be the fact that it just isn’t as much fun since Rob Smith, the notorious Acidman, passed away.
Mostly Cajun reminded me that it was two years ago this past Thursday when Rob died. His site is still up, still linking to “Bill in Peoria.”
Rob would occasionally comment on a post of mine, sending my hit counts through the roof. I more happy, though, that he thought highly of something I wrote.
I run across incoming hits from his site every once in a while. His daughter is keeping the site running, so that his son — the subject of every other post, it seemed — would be able to read it as an adult someday. And when I click on that incoming link and read whatever post is being repeated that day, I am amazed at how much the man exposed about himself, faults and all.
He and a friend of his were passing through central Illinois by car a couple of months before he died. I tried to get a message to him to get the two to stop in Peoria so he could see if any of the gals at Elliot’s were wearing that red toe nail polish he said he loved so much.
I’ll always regret not getting together to share a drink together. Even if it would have been just a Diet Pepsi on my end.
