- @kevnwood Now following. #
- SWe’re about 15-20 minutes away from go time. #
- They are coming. Meeting starts in about 7 minutes. #
- SJ-R editorial: Blago must resign now. http://tinyurl.com/57fxkw Don’t hold breath. #
- OK now, for the next two hours. NO IMs, people. #
- And we begin. #
- Clyde Gully and Gary Sandberg are absent. #
- Item E. Caterpillar lot. Manning. Question of timing along with possible referendum. Rany Ray: We were aware. #
- Ray says amended ordinance calls for termination on June 30 if appropriate. Manning appologizes. Moves to approve. #
- Randy Ray; Don’t want public crawling all over lot because of conditions of lot. Passed. #
- Item F: Amendment to museum agreement. Manning: Fool me one shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. #
- This is 3rd amendment. What has changed? All previous funding sources have not panned out. #
- Manning derides suggestions that a tax is needed. Say these same business leaderw ho oppose ALL other taxes seem to favor this one. #
- A quarter cent sales tax county wide. During worst economy since great depression. #
- He rattles off a list of other things that public must pay for. #
- Call it a search for the Holy Grail #
- Manning: Risk and uncertainly are plentiful and abundant in this project. Has “no confidence” this museum project will be self-sustaining. #
- There is no plan b. The only plans are how to pay for this. We already have a museum. And there’s ample room there to expand. #
- Blasts planning for not wanting mixed use. #
- Blasts idea that Caterpillar will move world headquarters everywhere. He says that not one Caterpillar executive has said this will happen. #
- Suggests offering Caterpillar a sweetheart deal for that block. It will grow their roots in downtown Peoria. #
- Get ready for an unprecedented marketing plan to convince people to vote for tax increase. “This is one snow job we cannot afford.” #
- Spain: I appreciate where Councilman Manning is coming from. If this project procedes it will be the choice of taxpayers. #
- Folks are going to have to do a reality check. .. We have answered questions about plan B. We have exhausted all other options. #
- Spain says this is only option available for growing Cat’s roots in this community. #
- Spain: Cat shareholders don’t want to foot the cost. Means a lot of jobs. #
- Spain: To say we can do something else with that block is a misstatement. #
- Salyers: This was just one method of gathering data. It was a fairly long and comprehensive process. #
- Salyers: Internet survey was not designed to be a vote. #
- BVA: Was this made clear on the Website? #
- Salyers: It was made clear that this was not a democratic vote. #
- BVA: A number of my constituents thought they were being asked to vote. #
- Turner: Why are we changing out logo in the first place? What’s wrong with it? #
- IT wasn’t the idea of the people we hared to change it, to change it, Ardis says. It was in discussion for a number of years. #
- Ardis; Some thought it (current logo) was not politically correct. We went out for bids a long time ago. #
- When Turner made that comment, there was audible agreement from the audience. #
- City manager Holling: Every two decades are so, it’s common to reconsider the images one uses for marketing. #
- Holling worked for city when current logo was selected. Feeling then was to change how city is perceived. #
- Turner: Timing is everything. People want us to save every nickel and dime. Brand is your image. You don’t piecemeal your brand. #
- Turner: Since we don’t have the funding, we’re going to have two logos out there. He appreciates hard work. #
- We’re running down our paper stock in anticipation of this. Cost of change is roughly $3,000 over the cost of the year. #
- Gulley says he’s seeing numbers that are much greater. #
- @AblativMeatshld It’s an Indian head. That raises some flags for some people. I don;t think it is, but others disagree. #
- Holling: Implementation will be an orderly process. People will like and accept the logo. #
- Gully notes it’s already in the budget. Ardis: We will have to buy stationary next year regardless. #
- Converse Marketing did a great ob with all these logos, Montelongo says. He didn’t see log until today. #
- Jacob: Quick comment, Turner brings up a great point. In private practice we roll things out to make a bid splash. #
- I had calls from People in favor of keeping the current local. I think this new logo captures a lot about Peoria. #
- Jacob: Points out downtown and our striking view there is of the city. I support this new logo. Not my first choice. #
- OOps. Battery getting low. #
- Not sure this tagline is the best choice. #
- That was spain #
- This battery i supposed to last eight hours. #
- Spain: Rebranding process about more than just the logo. #
- Gulley: He was against it before he was for it. But he’s not ready to roll it out. He will vote for it. #
- Ardis; There is a reluctance to change sometimes. I think this is a step forward. Passes, Van Auken and Turner vote against. #
- Item 5: Public service funding. Community Development Block Grant funds. I expect Gulley to ask a million questions. #
- @p00bah I was liveblogging a meeting of the Peoria City Council. Done now. #
- @AblativMeatshld Pretty much all of it, especially the southern half #
- @AblativMeatshld You are in Koehler’s district #
- @AblativMeatshld This is GOOD news. It means you get to vote AGAINST him. #
- @ColemanEdwards: So, does the new WKRP livestream? #
- Ahhhh …. no. You live in Barbara Van Auken’s district, the 2nd. #
- @capitolfax says that Illinois governor may be insane and removed from office. #
