Crappy Peoria roads take a bite out of my paycheck
So, it’s the night before Christmas, and nothing was stirring except me in my Ford Focus trying to find a place to get a burger.
I had just left my parents house and I was driving home. On a whim, I decided to NOT make to turn form North Street onto Columbia Terrance, but would instead go north and hit the McDonald’s on Knoxville.
Heh.
I was approaching Peoria High School when my front driver’s side tire hit what may have been the biggest, deepest pothole I’ve ever felt. My tire went flat immediately and I managed to pull over to the side of the road. It was dark, the temps were in the single didgets and the side of the road was covered in ice. So, I called by father for a ride home.
Today, on my day off, I spent the better part of four hours getting a new tire installed on my car. The quickest and easiest part of the process was actually changing the tire. Two of the three people at the tire place called in sick and there were four people ahead of me in line. So I had a nice long wait.
And it turns out my breaks and rotors are bad, so I need to get those fixed, along with a tune-up that should have happened a month ago, That’s happening on Saturday.
Good thing I just got paid.
Funny how that works out. It’s almost as if the universe is conspiring to keep me from being able to save up for that computer upgrade.
If there is one thing you can say about the Gods of Irony, it’s that they sure do like irony.
